Private Client
date:
2020-2021
Scope:
The property is located in the heart of Austin County, Texas. Sprawiling over 70 acres of hilltop and bottom lands, the property is currently nearing completion of a prairie restoration. The owners have been working on the property for over a decade, and are going to call the place home in the near future. Terralab worked with BBA Architects, based in Brenham, Texas in the quest to create a relaxing set of outdoor rooms that compliment the vast views and micro-climates the site provides. The project incorporates an robust scope of work incuding master-planning and implementation documents for outdoor entertainment areas, entryway enhancements, future pool, and vehicular access.
Impact:
The site offers many different typologies to situate outdoor living environments, capturing views in all directions and take advantage of existing breeze patterns and shade. The home is located near the center of the property, adjacent to large oaks, with great vistas to the south, yet concealed from the main road. Site grading concepts were very important in the design, incorporating steps, walls, and terraced planting to tuck the features near the home. Outdoor living, including gardening is very important to the owners, and was a central element in designing for a future pool, a boccee court, elevated deck, and sunset lounge area. Native and adapted plants work in concert with the restored prairie areas. Irrigation is being planned with an emphasis on low-water use and future connection to a rainwater harvesting system on the adjacent barn. Restored oak and hardwood mottes have been planned to help create wildlife habitat structure in the prairie areas and provide new vista and screening for the home site from adjacent views.
